Photographs by Rick Aguilar W H E R E: 1418 W Division St: TOJO is located on Division Street just east of the Polish Triangle (Milwaukee/Division/Ashland), and on the East end of Wicker Park. [MAP] The space is a renovated Art Deco bar that has been converted into an inviting 750 square foot exhibit space to be utilized by artists of all media. W H O: TOJO was started in 2004 by Chicago artist,Trevor O’Neil (Trevor O'Neil Design) and girlfriend/business partner, Josette Herriges (hence the name TOJO - Trevor O'Neil and JOsette). In 2006, the gallery brought on artist Michael O'Briant as a second resident artist and instructor for classes. Both O'Neil's and O'Briant's work can be viewed at the gallery year round. Once a month, the studio is transformed into an exhibit space for visiting artists. These openings are curated by the artists themselves and not by TOJO or its staff. This allows the space to house radically different artworks from various artists at different stages in their careers. M I S S I O N: TOJO is committed to providing the Chicago arts community with an accessible, affordable, and comfortable exhibit venue for emerging and established artists. With the primary objective to provide more profit to the artist, our intimate venue empowers the artists by giving them the voice and freedom to exhibit their work according to their own vision, standards, and requirements. The exhibit space is conducive to the unbiased enjoyment of ALL forms of art and no art or legal event will be refused due to style, content, or subject matter. If you are an artist and would like to show at TOJO, please contact us...we'd love to hear from you! H O U R S: By Appointment and Saturdays from 12-6pm |
